Discourse and Networking Event with BITTER (SWEET) HOME / in English

The idea that Europe is the center of the world is one that is prevalent today as it ever was – as much in Art and Knowledge production as in culture and politics. What are the challenges and limits against Eurocentrism in the fields of art and knowledge making? How can we collectively decenter eurocentrism in our practices?

This event is part of our Artist Lab «collective (un)learning spaces» in which we invite 10 BI*POC artists, cultural workers and producers to take part in a series of interdisciplinary «collective (un)learning spaces». During the first 3 days we aim for a «safer space» that empowers and provides conditions for different approaches and creative exchange. This is where we thrive. This is what we do best. And this is where we need to start in order to engage in a discourse that is informed by BI*POC artists, experiences and practices. While the first part of the Artist Lab involves a series of closed workshops, we invite everybody to join us on the final, when we try to take our collective experiences and step out of our «safer space» and into a dialog with the public.

4pm – Panel Talk with Q&A
We start with a panel talk involving workshop facilitators and artists involved in the lab. As BI*POC our experiences directly impact our work. Trying to find (and stick) to your own voice in an artistic world that is dominated by the white gaze is challenging at best. More even more in sticky times for the arts within the throes of a global pandemic.

6.30pm – Network and Exchange

After a short brake we invite everybody to stay, get to know us in a relaxed atmosphere and learn more about our experiences during the Artist Lab.

MORE ABOUT THE MODERATOR
Joining B(S)H as a curator and artistic director for this project is Keith Zenga King. Keith Zenga King is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, curator and theatre maker from Uganda based in Munich. Her work lives at the intersection of queer discourse, performance and politics. Before fleeing to exile in Europe, she worked to advance the rights of Queer and Trans Ugandans. They founded Queer collective that since evolved into ANTI MASS which reclaims space for queers, femmes and other minorities while exploring new potentials for sound and artistic expression in an increasingly regressive social climate. Since fleeing into exile, Keith Zenga Kings work has explored creating new textures and embodiments at the nexus of intersectional identities at which she lives. She has curated festivals as well as worked as a Dramaturg for queer productions such as Queer and Quer at the Ballhaus Naunystrasse Berlin, Endangered Species at Sophiensalle Berlin and Las Templas at the Tanzhaus Zurich.
