The Association of Independent Arts Munich
The Netzwerk Freie Szene München e. V., founded in 2017, is the representative body for independent performing artists in Munich. We promote collaboration among artists and cultural practitioners, foster regional and international networking, and provide information about the activities of Munich’s independent performing arts scene. We advocate for greater artistic freedom within the city and for improved living and working conditions for artists.
Our members include individual artists as well as collectives, groups, and venues of the independent scene. They work across all fields of the performing arts, producing dance, theatre, and performance works, as well as children’s, youth, and inclusive theatre.
The current board consists of:
Bahar Auer, Jan Geiger, Sophie Thuma, Arno Friedrich, and Robert Spitz.
These are our core demands:
More funds
We call for a continuous increase in funding for the independent arts scene to 10 million euros by 2035.
More Spaces
We call for long-term, professionally equipped work, presentation, and storage spaces for the independent scene — making productive use of vacant properties.
More Art
We call for a restructuring of the funding system that reflects the realities and requirements of artistic working processes.
More say in decision-making
We demand a stronger voice, more self-determination, and greater artistic visibility and self-organization.
More transparency
We call for greater transparency in politics and public administration regarding the allocation of funds and grants.
