Dear audience,

2025 is again a SPIELART-year – this time under the motto SOME KIND OF TOMORROW, which is based on a quote from the novel BELOVED by the African-American writer Toni Morrison. We don’t know what the future looks like. But we can think about it together, anticipate it, work on it. Over 30 productions explore the fault lines of our present this fall, from the perspective of artists who bring global interdependencies, personal stories and collective memories to the stage.

From October 17 to November 1, SPIELART will be presenting dance, theater and performance productions at various venues, including the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Volkstheater, the Residenztheater, the Muffathalle, the HochX and the Einstein Kultur. SPIELART is also back at Haus der Kunst this time – with nora chipaumire’s expansive work DAMBUDZO (23. & 24.10.), a mixture of performance, dance, installation and exuberant concert.

As always, the public space is part of the festival events: the Feldherrnhalle will be the venue for the first performance of the “tactical body” – consisting of the Munich artist Caroline Anne Kapp together with Katarina Marková and Carla Lou Schäfer – in which video, audio and live action from their artistic research on art and militarism will be shown. The collective God’s Entertainment will be touring with its mobile gallery-to-go and a live performance jukebox in front of the Muffatwerk (17.10.), to the FLUX at the Pinakothek der Moderne (18.10.), via the Habibi Kiosk at the Münchner Kammerspiele (22.10.) to the Celibidacheforum in front of the old Gasteig (24.10.). The Munich collective ‘Bruch’ is back with two performances of SPIRIT PLASTIC at the FAT CAT (24. & 25.10.). The last weekend of the festival (31.10. & 01.11.) is traditionally about “looking to the future”: with the program line BIRDS ON PERIPHERIES program line brings international productions from Beirut, Bangalore, Kuala Lumpur, Pachuca, Goma and Abidjan to the creative quarter (schwere reiter studio, HALLE6, ZIRKA) that want to look, tell and change from “the margins”.

So there is a lot to see!

Dear Audience,

2025 is once again a SPIELART year – this time under the motto SOME KIND OF TOMORROW, which refers to a quote by African American writer Toni Morrison from her novel BELOVED. We don’t know what the future looks like. But we canthink about it together, anticipate it, and work on it. More than 30 productions this autumn will explore the fault lines of our present – through the perspectives of artists who bring global interconnections, personal stories, and collective memories to the stage.

From 17.10. to 1.11., SPIELART will present dance, theater, and performance productions at various venues, including the Münchner Kammerspiele, Volkstheater, Residenztheater, Muffathalle, HochX, and Einstein Kultur. SPIELART will also return to the Haus der Kunst this year with nora chipaumire’s large-scale work DAMBUDZO (23. & 24.10.) – a vibrant blend of performance, dance, installation, and exuberant concert.

As always, public space will play a key role in the festival: the Feldherrnhalle will become the stage for the first performance of the “tactical body” – a collaboration between Munich-based artist Caroline Anne Kapp, together with Katarina Marková, and Carla Lou Schäfer – combining video, audio, and live action drawn from their artistic research on art and militarism.
The collective God’s Entertainment will tour with its mobile “Gallery-to-go” and Live Performance Jukebox, making stops in front of the Muffatwerk (17.10.), FLUX at Pinakothek der Moderne (18.10.), the Habibi Kiosk at the Münchner Kammerspiele (22.10.), and the Celibidacheforum in front of the old Gasteig (24.10.). The Munich collective ,Bruch’– will present two performances of SPIRIT PLASTIC at FAT CAT (24. & 25.10.). As tradition has it, the final festival weekend (31.10. & 1.11.) will once again turn its gaze toward the future: as part of the program line BIRDS ON PERIPHERIES, international productions from Beirut, Bangalore, Kuala Lumpur, Pachuca, Goma, and Abidjan will take place in Munich’s Kreativquartier (schwere reiter studio, HALLE6, ZIRKA). These works aim to view, narrate, and transform the world “from the margins.

There’s a lot to discover!
